I am an award winning professional photographer. A former staff photographer for the Los Angeles Times, the Ukiah Daily Journal and the Santa Barbara News-Press. As freelancer I was sent on assignment for The New York Times, Associated Press; Getty Images, Reuters; and French agencies Gamma-Presse and SIPA. In addition to assignments for humanitarian and relief organizations such as The American Jewish World Service; Direct Relief International; and The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. My photographs appear in publications such as the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Life Magazine; Stern Magazine; Sublime Magazine; Vanity Fair; Neon Magazine; People Magazines, the Los Angeles Times, The Christian Science Monitor, and in broadcast media outlets such as CNN, ABCNews and CBSNews.
My images are maintained in international archives around the world, including the United Nations, the personal archive of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, the University of California at Santa Barbara, Direct Relief International, Planned Parenthood, and other educational, humanitarian and philanthropic organizations around the world.
Most recently I was honored to have one of my photographs included in the de Young Museum in San Francisco’s beloved Golden Gate Park. The photograph titled “What It Says” was taken on a winters day, while shopping for essentials during the Covid-19 shelter-in-place order. While walking home, I saw the composition of the photograph come together. At that decisive moment, I knew and was reassured that — we – as a community in San Francisco were going to get through this novel pandemic together. I felt hope. Yet, while the photograph is humorous and compels a chuckle or two, the underlying message is one of hope.
