According to the Tibetan Calendar this is the New Year – Welcome to the Year of the Water Dragon. While traditionally a time for celebrating, many practitioners around the world are choosing to go into retreat to recite numerous prayers for the people of Tibet who are suffering relentlessly from the ongoing crackdown by the government officials.
Our precious human life, caring for the welfare of others, and the saving of lives are the core tenets of Tibetan Buddhism. Many monks and nuns are choosing to self-immolate as a voice of protest to the continuing oppression and violation of human rights. Please do what you can to be a voice for those who cannot voice due to media blackouts and violence against journalists. According to a current report published by the Committee to Protect Journalists, China is holding fast to information control with attacks and imprisonment of journalists on the rise.
